1116 scripta laudativa authorship is confirmed by the Panegyric’s style which is the same as the one we know from Fr. Stanislaus’ other writings. Furthermore, the PPM author states: “I am a priest of God”: Fr. Papczyński was ordained a priest in 1661. In all likelihood, Fr. Papczyński was also the author of the Dedicatio that precedes Panegyric. Sufficient proof is given by the similarity of styles. In this dedication, the “Warsaw Pious Schools” are said to be praying for the king’s intentions and pleading for his “goodwill and fatherly protection.” Contents and Motives The Panegyric’s very nature clearly shows that it is a laudatory piece. The newly elected king is praised above all for the manner of his election. Hence PPMopens with: “The King chosen by the grace of God.” In the form of rhetorical speech, Fr. Papczyński proved in Panegyric that the newly elected King Michael is “a ruler sent to us from heaven,” and that his “election [...] was willed by God.” This is to be supported by the fact that he obtained the Crown of the Kingdom through unanimous electors’ votes, without personally soliciting it or proposing his candidacy for the Crown of the Kings of Poland. As an additional argument, Fr. Papczyński presented two “heavenly signs” observed by the electors during the event, which were to confirm God’s intervention, preceded by the action of the Holy Spirit in their decision-making. The author went on to say that the election of Prince Michael was a reward from heaven for the merits and virtues of his father, mother, and relatives and then recounted the Prince’s virtues, thanks to which he became King. Next, Fr. Papczyński outlined the program and manner of governing, due to which the Prince could gain the “benevolence of the gracious God” and also repay the “grace” of the special care bestowed on the Republic of Poland. In this way, the perfect picture of a Catholic king emerged. The PPMconcludes with a brief invocation of God’s blessings on the new King and his subject – the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The conclusion is supplemented by a short poetic piece
