Także jako dążene do pogłębiania naszej świadomości należy rozumieć dekret nakazujący zarządom prowincji zbieranie i zabezpieczanie materiałów o życiu i działalności świątobliwych ojców, którzy odeszli do wieczności. Ma to być co prawda czynione pod kątem ewentualnego wszczęcia procesów beatyfikacyinych, ale równocześnie będzie służyło lepszemu poznaniu tożsamości mariańskiej. Zgromadzenie ma prowadzić swych członków do ewangelicznej doskonałości i tę jego działalność nailepiej można zrozumieć, studiując życie współbraci, którzy do owej doskonałości się przybliżyli. Ten nurt pracy wymaga poważnego wysiłku. Bardzo wiele już zawdzięczamy tu naszym historykom, wiele jednak jeszcze pozostało do zrobienia. Obok pracy naukowej i pisarskiej potrzebny jest także poważny wysiłek edytorski. Dlatego proszę kompetentnych współbraci i ich bezpośrednich przełożonych, aby pracy na tym polu nie traktowali jako luksusowego dodatku do innych zajęć. Praca ta będzie służyła nie tylko obecnemu pokoleniu, ale także tym, którzy będą po nas. Koordynacją tych prac się zaj- mie, mam nadzieję, powołana do życia w 1977 roku Komisja Historyczna w odnowionym składzie. W postanowie- shing of the sources and historical works that regard the Marian heritage", was recognized as one of top tasks for the next sixyear period. It means publishing of the materials that have been already elaborated, but also preparing other texts for pubheation. Likewise the decree that enjoins provincial governments to collect and safeguard materials regarding the life and activity of the Fathers who pas- seed to eternity in the opinion of sanctity, should be understood as a desire to deepen our consciousness. While it is true that this is supposed to be done with the intent to eventually initiate beatification processes, at the same time this will bring us a better knowledge of our Marian identity. The Congregation is to lead its members to evangelical perfection and we can best understand this function when we study the life of the confreres who drew close to this perfection. The work undertaken in this direction requires serious effort. We already owe much here to our historians, much however remains to be done. Besides scientific and literary work, there is also need for serious editorial effort. Therefore I ask competent confreres and their immmediate Superiors not to treat the work in this field as a luxurious addition to other occupations. This work will serve not only the present generation, but also those who come after us. I hope that these work will be coordinated by the Historical Commission that was called to life in 1977, in a renewed membership. The Chapter,
