Having divested himself of the duties of the Superior General, Father Casimir went to Rome and Portugal and undertook new efforts to establish the Marians in the world. This was the last, extremely fruitful stage of his life. 4. PROCURATOR GENERAL OF THE ORDER IN ROME At the general chapter on November 12, 1750, Father Casimir Wyszy<ski was made Procurator General of the Order in Rome. His most important task there was to defend the Order against the illegal activities of Father Stephen Turczynowicz, who founded a congregation under the name of “Mariae vitae.” Its members were bap- tized Jews, both men and women, whom Turczynowicz dressed in the white Marian habit. Their activities con- fused the Polish society which began to look at the Marians with suspicion. When leaving for Rome to take care of this matter, Father Wyszy<ski also intended to begin efforts for the beatification of the Founder of the Marians and to establish a Marian monastery in the Eternal City. He arrived there in the company of Father John Kanty Szkraffer. Father Wyszy<ski’s stay in Rome between the years 1751 to 1753 was extremely busy.
