Thus, Father Casimir enjoyed the ever greater confi- dence of his congregation. Undoubtedly, the number of those who advocated the relaxation of religious obser- vance gradually became smaller and the new generation of Marians, already formed by Father Casimir, was charac- terized by zeal and enthusiasm. This contributed consider- ably to the internal and external vigor of the congregation. During a session of the General Chapter in Sk[rzec on December 12, 1737, Father Casimir Wyszy<ski was unan- imously elected Superior General of the Order. The young and dynamic General of the Marians fulfilled this honor- able duty for three years and was instrumental in the growth of his religious family. When all the offices were distributed at the chapter in Sk[rzec, Father Casimir detained the delegates for deliberations and for a discus- sion of a program of work which he had drawn up in 29 points. The council approved it in its entirety. He declared that he did not intend to exercise his authority like a dicta- tor but in consultation with the council. He remarked that he accepted the responsibility of the faithful preservation of the statutes and the rule. He promised to make certain that the decisions of the chapter would not remain a dead letter, but would be implemented. As the Superior General of the Order, he demanded that the superiors of the monasteries set an example of the reli- gious life for others, that they make certain that religious exercises be performed conscientiously, and that they watch over the younger brethren.
