Furthermore, he encouraged the superiors to deal with their subordinates in a fatherly manner without showing impatience, and without being guided by ambition. Every three months the economes of the various monasteries were to make financial reports to their superi- ors and the latter were to present such reports to the Superior General and his council at an annual meeting. It was also to be the responsibility of the superiors to attend to the maintenance and repair of the monasteries. In his concern for the preservation of discipline in the monaster- ies, he emphasized that it was necessary for the Marian students to make proper use of their time. Lecturers were obliged to use the hours dedicated to lectures conscien- tiously and to watch over the students’ recreation time.
