30 B L E S S E D S T A N I S L A U S P A P C Z Y N S K I prayer, asking Fr. Stanislaus to intercede that Mark’s heart would be healed. See the following letter that I had Mark's mother write about what happened. In January 2002, Mark was diagnosed through an echocardiogram to have a hole in his heart (called atrial septal defect), first seen by Dr. Aldridge in Plymouth, IN. We were sent to Cardiologist Paul Howard in South Bend, IN, and had another echocardiogram in February. Then, a couple of weeks later, he had a systematic stress test. There were several physicians present in the room with Dr. Howard. I, too, was in the room. At that time, more than one hole was discovered, and I was advised Mark would need open heart surgery. Dr. Howard would refer us to Dr. Mark Hoyer at Riley's Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. Dr. Hoyer is a pediatric cardiologist. In March, Dr. Howard did a Trans Esophageal Echo on Mark and saw several holes. He then sent the tape to Dr. Hoyer who confirmed this. We saw Dr. Hoyer in May and had more tests (Echo and Tee). Mark’s surgery was scheduled for June 21, 2002. After Mark was put to sleep, another “EE” was done just prior to surgery. The holes were gone. Dr. Hoyer exam- ined him fully but stated the holes were gone and the heart looked good. He told us that he had been called a “Miracle Worker” in the past, but he stated this was “out of his hands.” — HJ, Mt. Prospect, IL
