J ULY 97 J uly 23 On July 23, 1958, JOHN GAJOWNICZEK (Ga-yov-nichek), a cleric in minor orders and a member of the Polish Province for eight years, died at the age of 24. Due to negligent supervision and care at the hospital, where he was admitted with an extremely high fever, he jumped out the window and died instantly. He is buried in the Marian Fathers’ section of the Wawrzyszew cemetery in Warsaw. J uly 24 On July 24, 1800, Father MARTIN STĘCHLEWICZ (Sten-khle-vich) died at the monastery in Skórzec at the age of 70. He was a religious for 50 years and a priest for 45. He is buried in the crypt of the church in Skórzec. In 1974, Father JOSEPHGRIGAITIS , a member of the Lithuanian Province, died at the age of 71 at Valkininkai, where he went for treatment of his heart condi- tion. He was a religious for 52 years and a priest for 43. He obtained a Doctoral degree in theology in Rome. For 4 years he was the principal of the Marian school in Marijampolė and for 11 years he was professor of dogmatic theology at the Seminary in Kaunas. Removed from this position by the Communist government, he took up residence close to the church in Janów and conducted a very fruitful and active apostolate among the religious sisters living clandestinely. He is buried in the Marian Fathers’ cemetery in Marijampolė. In 1980, Brother JOSEPH RUTKAUSKAS , a member of the Lithuanian Province, died at Marijampolė at the age of 86. He was a religious for 60 years. Among his varied duties the principal one was the care of the sick which he fulfilled with great love and dedication. He is buried in Marijampolė. J uly 25 On July 25, 1964, Father LADISLAUS ŁYSIK (Wee-sik), a member of the Polish Province, died in Warsaw at the age of 74 after a surgery. He was a priest for almost 50 years and a religious for 48. He made his novitiate at Bielany-Warsaw under the direction of Father Renovator. He was the director of the Institute for Boys at Warsaw, and later the school principal and local superior in Druya. He fulfilled the duties of local superior in other houses as well. Twice he was elected general councilor and for 10 years he was provincial superior. His heart was always open to the needs of others. During the difficult years of the German occupation of Poland, and also in the post-war years, he carried out extensive charitable work among the persecuted, the poor, and especially the orphans and sick infants. He is buried in the Marian Fathers’ section of the Wawrzyszew cemetery in Warsaw.
