In 1979, Father JOHNKARDAUSKAS , a member of theAmerican Province of St. Casimir, died at the house in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 75. He was a priest for 51 years and a religious for 18. He fled before the Bolshevik’s invasion of Lithuania in 1944 and exercised his pastoral ministry in Germany, Chile, and Brazil prior to coming to the U.S., where he joined our Congregation at the age of 57. He was known for his piety, gentleness and pastoral zeal. He is buried in the section reserved for the Marians in St. Casimir’s cemetery in Chicago. J une 17 On June 17, 1784, Father NICHOLASWASZKIEWICZ (Vashk’evich) died at the age of 40, while serving as a vicar in Ludwinów. He was a preacher and vicar in various parishes. He is buried in Marijampolė. In 1975, Father STANISLAUS MOTYKA (Mohti-ka), a member of the Pol- ish Province, died in Warsaw at the age of 42. He was a religious for 20 years and a priest for 11. He served as a catechist and vicar in various parishes of the Province. He is buried in the Marian Fathers’ section of theWawrzyszew cemetery inWarsaw. J une 18 On June 18, 2003, Father STEPONAS MATULIS (known as Matuliauskas prior to 1956) died at the age 85 at the residence of Nottingham. He was a member of the Lithuanian Province, a religious for 67 years and a priest for nearly 57. He began his theological studies in Lithuania, but had to leave the country in 1944. He studied in Germany and in Rome. He held various offices in the general house, serv- ing as a secretary, superior, treasurer, novice master, and spiritual moderator. In 1960, he was sent to London, where he was the local superior and rector of the church of St. Casimir. In 1966, he moved to Nottingham, the residence attached to the house in London. For some years he was rector of the boarding school for boys there and until 1995, the director of the Lithuanian mission in Great Britain. For many years he was also editor of the Lithuanian magazine Saltinis , and supervised the print shop. He is buried in Nottingham. J une 20 On June 20, 1950, Father PIUS ANDZIULIS , provincial superior of the Lithuanian Province died in office in Marijampolė. He was 80 years old. He was a priest for 50 years and a religious for 31. He entered our Congregation at the time of the reopening of the novitiate and religious house at Marijampolė in 1918. He was a renowned preacher.
