shrine. He initiated the lay movement called Marian Spiritual Family based at the Licheń shrine and, thanks to his efforts, from 1994 to 2004 a new shrine – the largest in Poland – was built. In 1999, Pope St. John Paul II visited and blessed the shrine, then still under construction. The church, consecrated in June 2004, received the title of minor basilica the following year. He is buried in Licheń. n oVember 13 On November 13, 1930, Brother CHESTER ANDREW SKIBNIEWSKI (Skrib-n'efski) died at the age of 31 at the house in Druya. He was a religious for six years. When he had to stop his ecclesiastical studies for health reasons, he took over the duties of secretary at the College in Bielany and then at the school in Druya. He was known for his great Marian devotion. He is buried in Druya. n oVember 14 On November 14, 1829, Father FABIAN HRYNKIEWICZ (Khrin-k'evich), a “Father of the Order,” died at the age of 69 at the monastery in Marijampolė. A man of exemplary devotion, he was the novice master for six years. He is buried in Marijampolė. n oVember 15 On November 15, 1892, Father GEORGE ČESNAS (Chesnas), a religious for 37 years, died at the age of 57 at the monastery in Marijampolė.After graduating from the Ecclesiastical Academy of Warsaw, he was named a lector of philosophy and theology. He taught religion in various schools. On February 9, 1865, he was elected the monastery superior and the General Superior of the Order, following Fr. Wilczyński’s resignation from that office. Father George carried out the general’s duties until 1892. He was much esteemed for his prudence and affability. Also, he was the one who, on April 20, 1871, baptized George Matulaitis-Matulewicz, the future Blessed, Archbishop, and Renovator of the Congregation of Marian Fathers. He is buried in Marijampolė. After the suppression of 1864, the following Marian seminarians residing at Marijampolė were forced to leave the monastery and transfer to the Seminary at Sejny, where they were eventually ordained priests: MICHAELALIŠAUSKAS ; JOSEPH CHROMIŃSKI (Khro-min'-ski); JOSEPH KUDYRKA (Koo-dirka); VINCENT WALENTA ; MATTHIAS WASILEWSKI who died in 1903 at the age of 61; PETER OZIMIŃSKI who died in 1925 at the age of 81; and STEPHEN SZOSTEK (Shostek). † A LBUM OF THE D ECEASED F ATHERS AND B ROTHERS † 140
