A ugust 7 On August 7, 1944, Father JOSEPH STAKAUSKAS died at the age of 73 in the village of Upyte, near Panevezys, Lithuania. He was a priest for 48 years and a religious for 15. As a diocesan priest, he served as administrator of the Diocese of Kaunas in addition to fulfilling other obligations. Dedicated to works of charity, he was untiring in his pastoral duties, especially in the field of Catholic Action. He is buried in Panevezys. A ugust 9 On August 9, 1990, Archbishop LOUIS POVILONIS , a member of the Lithuanian Province, died in Kaunas at the age of 80. He was a religious for almost 61 years, a priest for 56, and a bishop for over 20. He was Auxiliary Bishop to the Apostolic Administrator of Telsziai. In 1973, he was transferred to Kaunas as Auxiliary with the right of succession to theApostolicAdministrator of Kaunas and Vilkavizskis. He became Administrator of this Metropolitan See in 1979 and in the same year, was elected president of the National Conference of Bishops in Lithuania. In 1984, on the occasion of his 50 th anniversary of priesthood, he was nominated Archbishop ad personam . He is buried in Marijampolė. In 2012, Father VICTOR RIMSELIS , a Lithuanian-born member of the American Province, died at the age of 97. He was a religious for 79 years and a priest for 69. For three separate six-year terms, he served the Marian Congregation as superior of the St. Casimir Province. A kind, gentle, and deeply caring man, he inspired several generations of Marian priests and brothers in the U.S. He is buried in the Marian Fathers’ cemetery on Eden Hill in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. A ugust 11 OnAugust 11, 1908, FatherANDREWJUREWICZ (Yoo-revich) died at the age of 85 at the monastery in Marijampolė. Three years after the suppression of reli- gious institutes in 1864, he was forced by civil authorities to move from the monastery in Góra Kalwaria to Marijampolė, where he died as one of the last priests residing there after the suppression of the monastery in 1904. He is buried near the Marijampolė Church.
