Not only d id she herself avoid sin and deliberate transgressions, she also tried to perform all her duties as well as possible for the sheer love o f God. The sins o f others hur t her as something which insu lts God; she prayed for the conversion o f sinners ... for the conversion o f whole nations who do not know God. I t seemed as i f she wanted the whole world and all nations to throw themselves a t the feet o f God. "In connection w ith our work in caring for difficult girls and women from the reformatory, who frequently had not received the Sacraments for years before coming to our institution, S is ter Faustina always encouraged devotion to the Divine Mercy, in which even the gravest o f sins may be drowned. When I told her that the daily saying o f the chaplet o f Divine Mercy in our Congregation had from the beginning made a great impression on me, and added tha t it was a p ity the devotion was made in a closed in s titu ­ tion and not attended by lay people, S ister Faustina said with a radiant face: "There will come a time, not fa r from now, when the convent gate w ill be open and people will come to our chapel and pray to the Divine Mercy."" I explained to her my difficulties in working w ith the women from the reformatory, that often I had problems completing the spiritual exercises foreseen by the Rule.
