‘Even now, I go to meet you , eternal Love ‘With a heart (anguishing in its desire fo r you, I f e e l that fo u r pure love, Lord, dwells in my heart, (And I sense my eternal destiny in heaven. I go, O my (Bridegroom, I go to see you r glory, Which even now f i l ls my sou l zvith joy Lhere where a ll heaven is plunged in you r adoration, I f e e l that my worship is pleasing to you, nothingness though I am. In these last moments I know not how to converse zvith others. In silence I await only you, O Lord, I know the time zvill come when a ll zvill understand the work, o f Qod in my soul. I know that such is f o u r zvill. - So he it. (Diary, Notebook VI, from 1653). The suffering she was undergoing was also a frequen t subject in S ister F aus tina ’s verse. The genuine na tu re and honesty of h e r oblation comes through and moves us with its force. The verses are w ritten as she was in ac tua l pain, so they come from within the pain itself. The physical and mental endurance of S ister Faus tina is absolutely astounding, for she is able not only to conquer the most fierce pain, b u t even to sing a paear in honour of the Divine con ten t of th a t pain. I t i ; contemplation of suffering du ring suffering, as f drilling into the nucleus of the pain itself. S ister F au s tina transformed meditation upon suffering into a song which celebrates the sp iritual content of the pain because i t is connected with C h ris t the Lord. 358
