infirmarian S ister Chrysostom was still m istrustful. As they gave no help when i t was needed, they caused her, despite the ir intentions, much effort for he r exhausted forces. S ister F au s tina does not hide th is in the Diary. There are some very b itte r en tries in it: "It often happens when one is iff, as in the case o f Job in the Ofd Testament, that as fong as one can move about and wor (", everything is f in e and dandy; but when Qod sends iffness, somehow or other, there are few er friends about. ‘Bu t yet, there are some. They s t i f f take interest in our suffering and a ff that, but i f Qod sends a fonger iffness, even those fa i th fu f friends sfowfy begin to desert us. Then there begins a whofe series o f sifent sufferings. Only Qod knows how many sacrifices the sou f makes... JAt such times, Qod Jfimseff comes to our rescue, fo r otherzvise the sou f woufd not be abfe to bear these crosses..." (Diary, Notebook V, paras . 1509, 1511). The disease brought ever new torments.
