Pillars of Fire In My Soul

infant, and at the hour of death I will not be a Judge for them, but the merciful Savior. At the last hour a soul has nothing with which to defend itself except My mercy. Happy is the soul that during its lifetime immersed itself in the Fountain of Mercy, because justice will have no hold on it 21 (Diary, 1075). We stated that the Merciful Savior is well aware of the great misery of mankind today — of the material misery, but even more particularly of the moral misery. Through this humble sister, Jesus is appealing to humanity, first of all, by means of a warning — that it will exert itself fruitlessly if it does not have recourse to The Divine Mercy. Let us hear again how this solemn warning sounds: Mankind will not have peace until it turns with trust to My mercy (Diary, 300) . The Savior does not content Himself with giving a warning, but turns to an erring humanity with a cordial appeal and a joyful promise: Tell aching mankind to snuggle close to My merciful Heart, and I will fill them with peace (Diary, 1074). Whoever knew the simple and unlearned Sister Faustina had no doubt that, of herself, she would not have been capable of making up this warning and appeal that have such a far-reach- ing scope and such great importance. Here someone infinitely greater than she is speaking — someone who has the right to warn all of mankind and at the same time to lovingly invite it to come back to Him, and to promise it, in return, the good which it so ardently desires: I will fill them with peace. 56 Pillars of Fire in My Soul
