authorities assent to the establishment of the new feast. For such is the supernatural law, that the greater the glory that a certain work is to give to God, and the greater the good that is to come to mankind because of it, that many more problems and difficulties does Satan, and human spite and apa- thy as well, set up against it. Consequently, those who love this work must develop an even greater energy, foresight and zeal. The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy In the writings of Sister Faustina we find still other means which may serve to spread and to deepen our devotion to The Divine Mercy. Two of these, which, according to Sister Faustina, were revealed to her and imposed upon her by The Savior Himself, merit our special attention. The first is the “Chaplet” and the second is the “Novena to The Divine Mercy”. Both of these devout practices are already widely known and used. The revelation of the Chaplet to The Divine Mercy occurred in the midst of some moving and even terrifying moments. On September 13, 1935 (Diary, 474), Sister Faustina was caught up in a vision in which she beheld an Angel, who was the executor of divine wrath, with bolts of thunder and lightning flashes in his hands. At the sight of this sign of divine wrath, which was to come upon the earth, and especially upon a particular place, she began to implore the Angel for mercy. She had the feeling, however, that in the face of divine wrath her prayer was a mere nothing. Just then she beheld the Holy Trinity. She was overwhelmed by Its majesty and incomprehensible holiness. Simultaneously, she heard within herself words by means of which, with extraordinary power, she began to beg help for the world. And imagine! In the face of this prayer the Angel became helpless and unable to carry out the just punishment. These were the Divine Mercy … We Trust in You! 47
