Pillars of Fire In My Soul
means of which, from now on, all people will immediately recognize that they have before them an image of The Divine Mercy? When, at the request of her confessor, Sister Faustina asked the Lord about this matter, she received, while at prayer, this clarification: The two rays denote Blood and Water — the pale ray stands for the Water which makes souls righteous; the red ray stands for the Blood which is the life of souls. These two rays issued forth from the depths of My most tender mercy when My agonized heart was opened by a lance on the cross. These rays shield the soul from the wrath of My Father. Happy is the one who will dwell in their shelter, for the just hand of God shall not lay hold of him 6 (Diary, 299). During His Passion our Savior shed almost all of His Precious Blood for us. Some of It remained in His dying Heart, so He permitted that a lance should open this Most Sacred Heart; then the Blood gushed forth from It to the last drop, and Water with it. The Savior wants this touching manifestation of His Love to be venerated in a special manner in the devotion to The Divine Mercy. It is for this reason that He instructed Sister Faustina to write down this short ejaculatory prayer and to use it often: O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You 7 (Diary, 186, 187, 309). Though these two rays represent the most characteristic mark of the image of The Divine Mercy, other details within it, in their own way, likewise underline the mercy by means of which Jesus wants to attract souls to Himself. And thus, the Savior represented in this image is not riding on clouds as a Lord and Judge, but is walking upon this our poor earth , 8 upon 40 Pillars of Fire in My Soul
