Pillars of Fire In My Soul

after five years — on May 1, 1933. She died five years later in + agiewniki on October 5, 1938. Religious obedience assigned her in turn to the various houses of her community in Warsaw, Plock, Walendow, Vilnius and + agiewniki. There she worked for the most part in the kitchen, the garden, at housekeeping and gatekeeping. Besides the work, her life in the Congregation was filled out with prayer and, in a great measure, with sufferings — great ones at that. The testimony of one of the older religious sisters gives evidence of how the life of Sister Faustina was perceived through the eyes of those who observed her at close quarters: On the exterior, Sister Faustina did not distinguish herself by anything in particular, although, after our first conversation, I went away with the impression that this Sister was different from all the other Sisters. I admired her for her balanced spirit, her interior calm, and her cheerfulness of heart. I cannot recall that I was aware of any defect in her character. She was exemplary in the observance of the rule, in the performance of her duties, and in the fulfillment of her spiritual exercises. The tasks assigned to her were performed conscientiously and unsparingly so that everything would be in right order. Interior Character Such, more or less, was the external character of the life of Sister Faustina: grayish and unadorned, yet exemplary and edifying. Whoever had the opportunity, however, of getting to know Sister Faustina from the aspect of her interior life, and of delving into her spiritual Diary, written in strict obedience to her confessor, could not resist the strong impression that one was dealing with an uncommon soul. One saw in her a truly saintly servant of God who made rapid and lofty progress in 32 Pillars of Fire in My Soul
