Pillars of Fire In My Soul
repeated in the 66th: “Through the recitation of this Chaplet, it pleases Me to grant everything that will be asked of Me.” Jesus’ explanation of revelation 66 is as follows: “Through it, you will be granted everything, as long as what you ask for is in accor- dance with My will” (Diary §1541). For all that is contrary to God’s will is either evil or harmful. That is why it cannot be granted by the most-Good, and most-Blessed God. The “every- thing” of Christ’s promise signifies saving grace as well as tem- poral benefits for the individual persons and for communities. Sister Helen Faustina, at the command of Christ, made nove- nas of the Chaplet in order to “appease her Father and obtain Mercy for Poland.” In the first place, however, spiritual bene- fits, graces, are the main object of the general promise attached to the Chaplet (“The bowels of My Mercy are moved on behalf of all reciting the chaplet.” Diary §848). Obviously, under two conditions: if the persons saying the Chaplet manifest great trust and perseverance; and if they perform works of mercy. The exceptional greatness of the graces and benefits prom- ised by Christ to those saying the Divine Mercy Chaplet is evident in the four special promises. The first of these special promises was granted in September of 1936: “Whoever recites it will attain great mercy at the hour of death....Even the most hardened sinner, if he only once says this chaplet, will receive grace from My infinite mercy” (Diary 687). Christ is here referring to the grace of conversion and a God- fearing death in the state of Divine grace. The exceptional greatness of Christ’s Mercy is based on the fact that the only condition for receiving it is that a person say this Chaplet once, entirely the way Jesus established it, along with dispositions consistent with the meaning of the prayers which make it up, above all with trust, humility, and repentance for sins. This first special promise is directed to all mankind. The three remaining promises are reserved for the dying. Revelation 39, dated December 12, 1936, grants this same grace of conversion and Essential Features of the Devotion to The Divine Mercy 119
