ABSTRACT E PHEMERIDES M ARIANORUM 6(2017) 19-64 Sources of learning about the Marians’ celebration of liturgy and pious practices in 1673-1909 The author discusses all known sources which contain information about the celebration of the liturgy and pious practices of the Marians since the inception and up to the renovation of the Congregation (1673-1909). The article’s first part examines the juridical sources, that is the Constitutions (Norma vitae), Rule of the 10 Virtues of the B.V.M, Statutes (1723, 1786), and documents of the religious Chapters. Prior to the renovation of the Congregation in 1909, 27 Chapters were celebrated, which issued various instructions concerning the Marian way of life, including the celebration of the liturgy and pious practices. The second part studies the sources directly related to the liturgy, that is the various ceremonials, rituals, and prayer books. They provide clear indications as to the manner in which specific devotional acts had to be carried out. All sources of learning about the manner of celebrating the liturgy and pious practices give witness to the fact that the life of the Marians in its initial stage of the Order’s existence was permeated with Divine worship.
