18 foreword recommends as “a greatly beneficial work for people of every walk of life” (“Opusculum cuivis hominum statui maxime proficuum”). On the other hand, his Inspectio Cordis is a book containing profound spiritual meditations. These, and other written works that survived to our time and are now assembled in this edition, provide a wonderful illustration of the culture and mentality of his contemporary times, that is, the 17th century, which is referred to by experts of this period as the “golden age of Polish spirituality.” I am very pleased with the release of all of St. Stanislaus of Jesus and Mary Papczyński’s extant writings in Latin, which facilitates access to his works in their original language.
