prodromus reginae artium 1076 General Introduction to Scripta Laudativa We present here four works of praise by Fr. Stanislaus Papczyński. They are: Doctor Angelicus (DA); Panegyris Lyrica (PLyr); Panegyricus Augustissimo Principi Michaeli Korybuth (PPM); Triumphus sine originali macula conceptae Magnae Virgini (TMV). Not all of these four writings can be considered panegyrics, because only PLyr and PPM have a definitive right to be regarded as such. Even though DA and TMV are works praising the saints, namely St. Thomas and the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, they cannot be considered strictly panegyrical. These works celebrate the saints, but do so without the hyperbole and overblown acclaim that is usually characteristic of panegyrics. These short works were written at different times and circumstances, for which reason their more detailed characteristics will be given in separate introductions.
