Piotra dla odmówienia Highways, of the Valley etc., not to mention the various titles contained in the Litanies. It would be quite natural, then, for us, as priests and as religious, to turn to Mary as the "Queen of the Clergy" and "Queen of the Religious". In as much as the priest is an "alter Christus" and the re ligious a "discipullus Christi" (all Christians are, but the religious "is committed... under a new and special title" - Lum.Gen.44), it is precisely for them that Mary is a model of that complete dedication or commitment to Christ which is the very essence of a vocation. She is the "ideal" of the cloistered soul as she is the ideal of the Christian and the Priest. The Conciliar dogmatic Constitution on the Church tells us that Mary, while enjoying the beatific vision, "continues to win for us gifts of eternal salvation... cares for the brethren of her Son who still journey on earth..." (Lum.Gen.62). If so, then surely Mary must be concerned with the question of vocations, for it is of supreme importance that the Church be endowed with a sufficient number of good vocations in the fulfilment of its mission - the salvation of souls. Twice on this year's Good Shepherd Sunday, May 6, the World Day of Prayer for Vocations, Pope John Paul II appealed for prayer for vocations to the priesthood and the religious life. Lack of such vocations is a problem of "urgency and gravity" he said to about 80,000 persons gathered in St. Peter Square for the recitation of the Regina Coeli. Two days earlier, the
