INTRODUCTION On May 15, 1968, the Primate of Poland, Cardinal Stefan Wyszy<ski arrived at the parish of Jezi[rka near Gr[jec to venerate the saintly Marian, Father Casimir Wyszy<ski. In the homily which he delivered on that day, he tried to show that the example of the Servant of God of two centuries earlier speaks to us even today, particularly as it relates to the life of faith, the love of God, the love of Mary Immaculate, and the love of neighbor. In the Primate’s opinion, Father Casimir Wyszy<ski nurtured his faith through frequent meditations upon the Lord’s Passion, and nurtured his love for Mary Immaculate by placing himself at her disposal in the Order of Marians, and by spreading devotion to her in Poland, Lithuania, and Portugal. He did not limit his activity merely to the work of his own sanctification or to the development of the Order, but he made efforts to bring about the spiritual rebirth of Polish society during the difficult time of Saxon rule. He pointed to Mary in whom he saw the salvation from the deluge of evil which was destroying the Polish nation. Father Casimir came to the conclu- sion, said Cardinal Wyszy<ski, that it was necessary to call upon the Blessed Mother in difficult and dangerous times.
