he interceded on their behalf before the Pope. Sensitive to the injustice done to the peasants, he looked for justice at the highest level of moral authority in the Church. We are not certain whether Father Wyszy<ski ever learned about the positive results of his intercession before the Pope, since he was in Portugal at the time, making every effort to establish the Congregation of Marians in that country. Father Wyszy<ski’s social and pastoral activity is only one manifestation of his care for the peasants. To this should be added his personal influence on the magnates and representatives of the nobility with whom he made contacts and among whom the Marians worked. Introducing these people to the ways of Christian life must have undoubtedly left a mark on their attitudes towards the peasants. Through his literary activity – although modest due to his active lifestyle – Father Casimir tried to reach the edu- cated classes of the society and strengthen in them the appropriate principles of piety which, in turn, would shape their proper attitude towards life. One of the means lead- ing to this end is a true devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Father Wyszy<ski taught this to his fellow country- men, drawing from the spiritual heritage of the Marians. 7.
