In his writings, Father Wyszy<ski himself mentioned the Bishop’s hostile attitude. He recalled that the Bishop was rather favorable to Father Stephen Turczynowicz at the time, who was ille- gally attempting to found an order of baptized Jews based on the Marian rule. Bishop Kobielski even tried to per- suade Matuszewicz to transfer his foundation in Ra>na to them. When his efforts did not succeed, he imposed eccle- siastical sanctions upon him. The Bishop, in turn, was later suspended from exercising his authority by the Holy See, and it was only after the personal intercession of King Augustus III that the Bishop’s authority to run the diocese was restored. Martin Matuszewicz interceded at the Apostolic Nunciature in Warsaw asking that the excommunication imposed upon his father by the Bishop be revoked and that permission be granted to continue work on the foundation.
