monastery in G[ra Kalwaria for six years and, at the same time, as a former Superior General, actively participated in the administration of the Order. Therefore, it surprised no one when on June 19, 1747, at the General Chapter in Sk[rzec, he was elected Superior General yet again. He continued to take care of the proper formation of the Marians, of acquiring new candidates and establishing new religious houses. He had already made efforts to attract new vocations to the Marians during his stay in Rome from 1731 to 1733. A few Italian and Spanish candidates did apply, but they soon withdrew due to the fact that it was impossible to establish a monastery in the Eternal City at the time. It was only during Father Casimir’s second stay in Rome in 1751 that he recruited Raphael de Buffa of Piedmont who became a dedicated worker of the Order in Portugal. During his first term as Superior General, he often sent Father Casimir Polak, who was of Czech descent, to Prague with the mission of recruiting new candidates. Thanks to this persistent work, six candidates joined the Marians in 1738, five in 1739, and another eleven Czechs in 1740. The Czech vocations became a valuable intellectual and spiritual contribution to the Congregation of Marians. Such persons as Casimir Polak, Isidor Taudt, Alexy Fischer, John Kanty Szkrafer, Benedict Hönig, John Nepomucen Czermak, and the three Machaczeks brought honor both to the congregation and to the Czech nation by their lives and works.
