Nuncio and before the Bishop of Pozna<, even to the point of demanding that the Marian Institute be dissolved. One of his allies was Francis Wyszy<ski’s older brother Joseph, who had entered the Marian novitiate around 1716, and was given the religious name Alexander. After he left the military troops of King Augustus II, he could not conform with the rigors of the religious life, as he had been accustomed to a less restricted camp life, and the Marian rule even forbade the consumption of alcoholic beverages. Therefore, he gladly supported Father Krajewski’s reformist aspirations, and together they denounced the Marians who opposed these new projects before the religious and civil authorities. Moreover, both of them demanded the liquidation of the Order. The Apostolic Nuncio appointed the Provost of St. John’s collegiate church, Bishop Adam Rostkowski, to be Visitator to the Marians. The Bishop closed the novi- tiate, sent the younger priests of the congregation to assist in pastoral work in various parishes of the diocese of Pozna<, to which the region of Mazovia belonged at that time. The reason which Bishop Rostkowski gave to support his decision was the fact that the Constitutions of the Order lacked the official approval of the Holy See. As the result of this visitation, the priests began pastoral work in parishes and some Marian clerics moved to other congregations.
