† A LBUM OF THE D ECEASED F ATHERS AND B ROTHERS † 148 D eCember 3 On December 3, 1773, Brother JOHN of SANTA MARIA died at the monastery in Balsamão, Portugal. He was one of the first Portuguese men to receive the white habit of the Marian Order from the hands of Father Casimir Wyszyński in 1755. He is buried in Balsamão. In 1920, Father FRANCIS SERAFINAS , age 45, a member of the American Vicariate, died towards the end of his first year of religious profession after surgery in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. He had previously been pastor of Our Lady of Vilnius Parish in Chicago, which was assumed later by the Marians. He is buried in the section reserved for the Marians in St. Casimir’s cemetery in Chicago. In 1943, Father JOHN SOBCZYK (Sob-cheek), provincial superior of the Polish Province in 1939, died at the age of 50 at the house in Bielany-Warsaw. He was a priest and religious for 25 years. Before the war, he was an educator at the Bielany school. During the German occupation, he exerted himself in helping the poor. He is buried in the Marian Fathers’ section of the Wawrzyszew cemetery in Warsaw. In 1959, Father LEON WAJDZIK (Vay-dz'ik) died under the wheels of a streetcar in Bielany-Warsaw at the age of 52. He was a religious for 35 years and a priest for 23. During the last ten years of his life, he was the pastor of the parish in Marymont, Warsaw. He is buried in the Marian Fathers’ section of theWawrzyszew cemetery in Warsaw. In 1994, Father JOSEPH ROMANOWSKI , a member of the Polish Province, died at the age of 65 in Głuchołazy, Poland. He was a religious for 45 years and a priest for 33. He was engaged in pastoral and catechetical ministry in various parishes of the Province. During his four-year stay in Licheń, he was dedi- cated to hearing confessions. In 1985 he was transferred to Głuchołazy, where he assisted our priests in their pastoral work in the parish despite his failing health and diminishing strength. He is buried in the Głuchołazy cemetery, in the plot reserved for the Marians. D eCember 4 On December 4, 1807, Father MACARIUS SOKOŁOWSKI (Soko-wov- ski) died at the age of 65 at the monastery in Marijampolė. He was a religious for 39 years. As anAssistant of the Order, he exercised a most zealous pastoral ministry in the Marian churches and in a number of diocesan churches almost to the end of his life. He is buried in Marijampolė.
