“A suffering soul is closest to my heart” – Diary, 1487.13 Dear Pilgrims, Welcome to the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy! For the past two years, we cancelled the public celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday due to the pandemic. This year we will celebrate a modified Divine Mercy Sunday having more Masses with less pilgrims. The past two years have been a real struggle for so many people. We want to welcome you with open arms again to this Shrine where you can ever experience God’s unchanging mercy. The world changes, but God remains the same. People’s lives have been changed by this pandemic. There is much suffering that has occurred as a result. Many people have suffered physically from COVID and even lost their lives. Loved ones are grieving. Many of our healthcare workers are burned out. People feel socially distanced from one another. Many still live with fear, anxiety, and worry. The mental and psychological suffering has taken a toll on lives as well as financial burdens. Where can we find hope in this pandemic? We can always find hope in the message of the Divine Mercy. “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I shall give you rest…” (Mt. 11:28). No matter how badly the pandemic has impacted your life, God is still there in the midst of your suffering. Christ suffered and can empathize with our sufferings. On this Divine Mercy Sunday, pray for an end to the pandemic. We pray that God will protect us and all our loved ones with the rays of His Divine Mercy. Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Anthony Gramlich, MIC Rector, National Shrine of The Divine Mercy
