Sister Faustina Kowalska: Her LIfe and MIssion

as i f Jesus H imself, or the bishop, were coming to a me " a I l. also remember something tha t happened at this time. On one occasion meat from an entire beef carcase was delivered from the town. There was a heat wave at the time and no suitable place to keep the meat, and we d id not want it to spoil. The S ister Cook was ill; the Housekeeper S ister was busy with other urgent work. S ister Josepha, who kept the larder, d id not want to know, having to f in ish some work to a deadline. S ister Faustina was left alone to cope w ith the carcase. I came to help. She told me, "We will d ish up lunch, and then we’ll go to the chapel and pray. I ’ll ask Je su s ’ advice, I ’ll tell H im all about it, and He w ill give me the best advice on what to do". "After we had served lunch we d id indeed go to the chapel. A fter a moment’s prayer S ister Faustina came out as i f overjoyed and filled w ith a new energy, and she said, "I know what we’ll do: the smaller pieces o f meat will be for minced meat burgers, and we will sprinkle the large jo in ts w ith vinegar and p u t them in the cellar wrapped in cloth." "We worked un til late at night. I th ink the Novice Mistress gave us someone else to help. I only remem ber that all the meat kept very well and nothing was spoiled... When S ister Cook came back to work after a few days, she praised S ister Faustina for having done so well. Seeing the state in which the meat was delivered, and recalling also the heat wave and lack o f appropriate methods o f preserving it, for there was only the cellar, without any ice, I th ink tha t for all tha t meat to keep without going bad was almost a miracle." (Archives of S.F. Recoil.). The same s is te r has some in te res ting rem arks about the life of S ister F au s tin a in th e community. She recalls with respect h e r courage in m a tte rs concerning God. 78
