th a t o ther sisters could not manage, to help h e r in he r work. Having obtained them , she made every effort, using both emotional and reasoned argum en t, to b ring them to God. Such activity was also the simple conseq­ uence of h e r p rayer, for she had asked Je su s to "give h e r sinful souls", no t th ink ing merely of supporting them in h e r prayers. She w an ted to consecrate all h e r streng th and capabilities to th is aim. She had a special gift of being able to make contact w ith those who were in inn e r rebellion. Gradually, by the delicacy of h e r approach and h e r k indness expressive of care, toge ther w ith h e r uncomplicated closeness to them , she won over those most obstinate wards who h ad h ithe rto been oblivious of and unresponsive to persuasion and re ­ quests. I t nearly always finished w ith h e r finding the way to the soul of even the most hardened . She had h e r methods, for h e r h e a r t , so full of kindness, showed h e r the way to help ano the r hum an being. Sometimes very unu sua l s itua tions occurred as a resu lt. An example is given by S ister Victorina: "When I was in Kiekrz, one o f our wards, Antoinette, told me tha t when she had been staying in V iln ius she had been a bad stubborn girl. She had not wanted to receive the Sacraments, and S ister Faustina had taken a special interest in her. S ister had tried to approach her, and give her little p leas­ ures, so tha t in time she would be won over to God. "When Christmas came and their relations came to v isit the g irls and bring them presents, Antoinette received nothing because she was an orphan and had no one close. S ister Faus tina asked the Superior to allow her to make up a parcel for Antoinette. She then invited her to the parlour, gave her the parcel and offered her Christmas greetings. The g ir l was so moved by th is kindness tha t she afterwards went to Confession and changed her behaviour." 439
