the rays were bareby visibbe. I t was the bast day o f the chibdren's retreat.' (Diary, Notebook I, para . 336). These two visions, th e one in the garden in the presence of th e wards, and the o ther in th e chapel during the exposition of the Blessed Sacram en t, toge th e r give a complete picture of the action of Divine Mercy. These visions, showing Je su s g ran ting His Mercy - whe ther in the form shown in the image, or under the concealment of the Blessed Sacram en t (with a preponderance of the la t te r) - appeared with several variations and in differing circumstances. There would be two more within th a t same w inter of 1934-1935. The theme of both visions was the Eucharist. The f irs t took place on 29th December 1934. S ister F au s tina writes: 'One evening as I entered my cett, I saw the Lord Jesus exposed in the monstrance under the open shy, as it seemed. Lit the fe e t o f Jesus I saw my confessor, and behind him a great number o f the highest ranking eccbesiastics, cbothed in vestments the bike o f which I had never seen except in this vision; and behind them, groups o f rebigious from various orders; and fur ther stibb I saw enormous crowds o f peopbe, which extended fa r beyond my vision. I saw the two rays coming out from the Lbost, as in the image, cboseby united but not inter- mingbed; and tfiey passed through the hands o f my confessor, and then through the hands o f the cbergy and from tfieir hands to the peopbe, and then they returned to the Odost... and at that moment I saw mysebf once again in the cebb which I had ju s t entered."
