Sister Faustina Kowalska: Her LIfe and MIssion
Incarnation.’ S ind suddenly the In fan t Jesus appeared before me, radiant zvith beauty, die told me hozv much Qod is pleased zvith simplicity in a soul. "Although My greatness is beyond understanding, I commune only zvith those zvho are little. I demand o f you a childlike sp irit.' (Diary, Notebook I, para. 332). S ister Faustina , of course, did no t cease to meditate upon th e Passion. This kind of p rayer was h e r daily food, w ithout which she could not live. Although Jesus H imself had commanded h e r to do so, and basically approved of h e r custom, he supplemented it, showing her th a t if He had no t humbled H imself to assume the body of a child, in order to become hum an , there would have been no work of Redemption. "Moly Mow. During this hour, I tried to meditate on the Lord ’s ‘Passion. Pu t my sou l zvas f i l le d zvith joy, and suddenly I sazv the Child Jesus. P u t Mis majesty penetra ted me to such an extent that I said, "Jesus, f o u are so little, and yet I hnozv that 0rou are my Creator and my Lord." A n d Jesus anszvered me, 7 am, and / keep company zvith you as a child to teach you humility and simplicity.' (Diary, Notebook I, para. 184). Humility, and a t the same time a g rea t sense of dignity; g rea t tasks , and the little means leading to the ir completion; simplicity in communion together with the consciousness of h e r own worth, and above all love, which is the bond of perfection - these are the charact eristics which Je su s developed in S ister Faustina , especially beginning with h e r time in Vilnius. 198
