understood these words to their very depth. ‘There is no room fo r doubt here. M y fineness to Jesus must be through suffering and hum idty.' (Diary, Notebook I, para . 268). Je su s varied His teaching: sometimes th e re were visions, a t others the re were words of instruction . Here a re two of them: 7 desire that you know more profoundly the Cove that bums in M y Mean fo r souls, and you zv ill understand this when you meditate upon M y (Passion. C ad upon M y mercy on behalf o f sinners; I desire their salvation.' (Diary, Notebook I, para . 186). 7 desire that your heart be form ed after the model o f M y merciful (Heart, you must be completely imbued zvith M y mercy.' (Diary, Notebook I, para . 167). There was no need to rep e a t such appeals to S ister Fau s tina . She responded with ferven t love and complete read iness to do His Sacred Will. His love challenged h e r to increase h e r own efforts, for with all h e r soul she wanted to be like Him. 7 want to resemble you , O Jesus - yo u crucified, tortured and humiliated. Jesus, imprint upon my heart and sou l yo u r ozvn humility. I love you , Jesus, to the point o f madness, y o u who were crushed zvith suffering as described by the prophet [cf. Isa iah 53: 2-9], as i f he could not see the human form in y o u because o f fo u r great suffering... O eternal and infinite Qod, what has love done to you?" (Diary, Notebook I, para. 267). 141
