had heard tha t S is ter Fau s tina talked to someone at night. I answered tha t I had not heard this. We shared a bedroom; the beds were separated by cur tains. S ister A. stated tha t there was no one else in the room and tha t S ister Faustina was ta lk ing to someone. I thought tha t perhaps she was ta lk ing to Jesus, because the sisters used to whisper among themselves tha t S ister Faustina had previously had some sort o f revelation in Plock, tha t Jesus had appeared and talked to her. I am not able to say whether I personally believed in these revelations." (Archives of S.F., Recollections.). Around S ister F au s t in a th e re was woven a web of h in ts , vulgar curiosity, and sometimes mockery. Finally, suspicions of hy s te r ia or even certain m en ta l dis turbances were voiced, and these multiplied the more rapidly as she herself, when asked by S isters to confirm th e rumours circulating and to give more details, did not react. Criticism came from various sides. ”... i t seemed to my superior that these graces were unlikely," notes S is te r Fau s tina . "She told me that it was impossible that Qod shouCd commune zaith Jfis creatures in such a way: 'I fea r fo r you, Sister; i s n ’t this an iCCusion o f some sort! y o u 'd 6etter go and seek. the advice o f a priest." (Diary, Notebook I, para . 122). "9dy only desire’ - she w rites fu r th e r on - "was that some priest would say this one word to me: ,(Be at peace, you are on the right road", or "Reject a ll this fo r it does not come from Qod." ‘Bu t I could not f i n d such a priest who was sufficiently sure o f himself to give me a definite opinion in the name o f the Lord" (Diary, Notebook I, para. 127). 117
