Pillars of Fire In My Soul

decision of the Apostolic See. At that time I made every effort to demonstrate, that this image can be treated as deriving from public revelation, for it represents Christ in the moment of insti- tuting the sacrament of Divine Mercy (penance — Jn 20:19 ff.). It was recommended to me to have a new image painted, which Prof. Ludomir Sledzinski accomplished according to the proto- type of Mr. Kazimirowski, and the Principal Episcopal Commission on 5.X.54 (on the 16th anniversary of Sr. Faustina’s death) approved it as representing Christ in the moment of instituting the sacrament of penance, under the condition that it not be connected with Sr. Faustina’s revela- tions for as long as these are not verified by the Apostolic See. Even though this image is still not ideal, it is the closest to the Wilno prototype. Recently, upon the commission of Fr. Przybysz, a Marian (Hereford, Lower Bullingham, England) a professor from the Catholic University of Lublin, Antoni Michalak, produced a new image, more correct, with a small reservation (not the left, but the right foot is painted forward, the eyes are overly open, the background is too rich to the disadvan- tage of the figure itself whose countenance is somewhat sad). 3. A few years ago I wrote to Fr. Suwala and to Fr. Misiak [Pallotine priest in France, the first-named, recently deceased] that I would be swerving from the truth were I to be in agreement with what they print on the holy pictures bearing the Hyla image that they distribute: “The image painted according to Sr. Faustina’s directives,” because Mr. Hyla executed that image a few years after her death on the basis of instructions of persons who, during her lifetime, were not interested in this image and were completely igno- rant of the details. The basic mistakes of this image are the following: the whole image reveals a showy feminism — the curved posture; the right hand raised too high; the figure’s gaze skittishly drilling [the viewer], directed too high; the rays as though ropes directed towards the ground; the Savior sometimes standing on the globe [of the earth], sometimes Divine Mercy … We Trust in You! 87
