Pillars of Fire In My Soul

I am often in contact with persons who are dying (Diary, 1684), wrote Sister Faustina. It was her Guardian Angel (Diary, 820) who would prompt her to do this. It often happened that the persons dying were several hundred kilometers away. A wondrous contact with the dying has God given me! My vision is purely spiritual, by means of a sudden light that God grants me at that moment. I keep on praying until I feel peace in my soul (Diary, 835). More than once she was able to ascertain that indeed it was at this juncture, when she was summoned to prayer, that the final agony of the given person was beginning. She likewise ascertained that whenever she was compelled to pray for a longer period of time, it meant that that soul was undergoing greater struggles and was experiencing a longer period of agony. She became convinced that the Chaplet to The Divine Mercy was espe- cially helpful to the dying. Recite the chaplet I have taught you (Diary, 810), said the voice she heard within her soul on one such occasion; and she felt the power of The Divine Mercy embrace the dying person. Out of a fervent desire to save the dying from eternal damna- tion, the merciful heart of Sister Faustina grew bold in its petitions. She recalled, for example, that on a Friday, January 8, 1937, during Holy Mass, she felt the closeness of the Lord in a special way. After Holy Communion she turned her gaze with trust toward the Lord and began to entreat Him thus: O Jesus! I beg You by the inconceivable power of Your mercy that all the souls that will die today escape the fire of hell, even had they been the greatest sinners. Today is Friday, the memorial of Your bitter agony on the Cross. Because Your mercy is inconceivable, the Angels will not be surprised at this (Diary, 873) ...
