progress of civilization, the world senses itself ever more disrupted and unhappy. During this same century, in order to rescue erring and grievously sinful humanity, Heaven sent it extraordinary admonitions. It did this through Mary, the Mother of Mercy, who by means of three great apparitions — in La Salette, in Lourdes, in Fatima — exhorted humanity to penance and to a life based on faith and love. She made it clear that otherwise great calamities shall befall humanity for its unbelief and its immorality. To the category of these revelations, whose purpose it is to turn back humanity from the path of godlessness, one must add the revelations given to Sister Faustina — given, this time, not in France or Portugal but in the land of graves and crosses that is our Poland. It is the Savior Himself who appears in these revelations as the chief personage, who with the new revelation of His mercy wants to convert sinful humanity, to draw it away from the paths of destruction; for, as He had often stated with emphasis to His confidante: Mankind will not have peace until it turns with trust to My mercy (Diary, 300) Revelation of The Divine Mercy Sister Faustina received the first apparition of Jesus as The Merciful One on February 22, 1931, in Plock. She described it thus: In the evening, when I was in my cell, I saw the Lord Jesus clothed in a white garment. One hand [was] raised in the gesture of blessing, the other was touching the garment at the breast.
