Comparison with Devotion to the Sacred Heart It is possible to conduct a comparison between this Devotion and the Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus based on what has already been said about the object of Devotion to Divine Mercy. It might appear that there is no essential difference between these two devotions, and that the Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus can be found within the framework of Devotion to Divine Mercy. Do we not say in the litany to the Sacred Heart of Jesus that it is full of love and goodness, that it is long-suffering and of great mercy, that it is generous to all who call upon it? Such a view of the relationship between these two devotions would, however, be shallow and not in accord with the essential features of either devotion. The essential and proper object of the Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is the Divine person of the Incarnate Son of God.
