Whether then we die or live it is but just that we belong wholly to Jesus, who has saved us at so great a cost. 3 St. Faustina learned about the merciful love of Jesus Christ pri- marily from this very same “book”: from the Passion of our Savior. She wrote in her Diary , entry no. 305: O my Jesus, my only hope, thank you for the book which you have opened before my soul’s eyes. That book is Your Passion which You underwent for love of me . It is from this book that I have learned how to love God and souls. In this book there are found for us inexhaustible treasures . O Jesus, how few souls understand You in Your martyrdom of Love! Oh, how great is the fire of purest love which burns in Your Most Sacred Heart! Happy the soul that has come to under- stand the love of the Heart of Jesus! 4 With the help of these same saints of the Church – and espe- cially St. Faustina and St. Alphonsus – we are going to open together the “book” of our Savior’s Passion, and read what we can there of His testimony of divine love. In fact, St. Faustina assures us that there is no meditation more pleasing to Jesus Christ than consideration of His suffering for us. In diary entry no. 368, Jesus tells her explicitly: There is more merit to one hour of meditation on My sorrowful Passion than there is to a whole year of flagel- lation that draws blood; the contemplation of My painful wounds is of great profit to you, and brings Me great joy. Again, in diary entry no. 267, she reports: Jesus told me that I please Him best by meditating on His sorrowful Passion, and by such meditation much light falls upon my soul. 42 Jesus, Mercy Incarnate
