Divine Mercy: The Heart of the Gospel

A Homily on The Divine Mercy 187 Dear Marian Fathers and Brothers o f The Immaculate Conception Beloved Brothers and Sisters all. Blessed be the God and Father o f our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Mercies and God o f all Consolation!” (2 Cor. 1:3). Through Christ and in Christ, with the power of the uncreated Love, as one family, the Church blesses and glorifies a “God who is rich in mercy”(Eph 2:4) whom Christ has revealed as a merciful Father. The baby bom in Bethlehem is the sign of the merciful God Who keeps His promises o f salvation through the mystery of love which is the Incarnation of the Word (Catechism o f The Catholic Church , no. 456-460). He, the Son o f God made man, is the unique, perfect and unsurpassed Word o f the Father (Ibid, no. 65). By His Cross, the Merciful Father has shown us all His love: “God, who is rich in mercy, because o f the great love He has for us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, brought us to life with Christ (Eph. 2:4). The words and deeds o f Jesus are the expression o f the Divine Mercy. The deeds support and make efficacious the words, and they reveal the mystery o f the Mercy, hidden in the deeds. By means o f Christ’s revelation, we know the Mercy of God, which is the central point o f the relation o f man with the Lord. Thus we see Him as particularly close to us (Dives in Misericordia, no. 2). The Holy Father, John Paul II, invites us not only to meditate in the abstract on the mystery o f God as “Father of Mercies,” but to come to the same mercy in the Name o f Christ and in union with Him; He hopes that searching for Him in every necessity we will come to know His mystery more and more: the mystery o f the Father and o f His love. The Divine Mercy is not a doctrine, but a new life; it is not for the purpose of being studied, but to be lived and celebrated.
