March 13th -Second Sunday of Lent
My heart aches greatly at the worsening situation in Ukraine. Despite the diplomatic efforts of the last few weeks, increasingly alarming scenarios are opening up. Like me, many people all over the world are feeling anguish and concern. Once again the peace of all is threatened by partisan interests. I would like to appeal to those with political responsibility to examine their consciences seriously before God, who is the God of peace and not of war; who is the Father of all, not just of some, who wants us to be brothers and not enemies. I pray that all the parties involved refrain from any action that would cause even more suffering to the people, destabilising coexistence between nations and bringing international law into disrepute. Pope Francis: A Call for Peace Excerpt from General Audience February 23, 2022; www.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/audiences/2022/documents/20220223-udienza-generale.html Images taken from: https://www.thedivinemercy.org/articles/letter-pope-francis-families and https://www.thedivinemercy.org/articles/pope-francis-unique Lenten Regulations 1. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of abstinence from meat as well as days of fast, when only one full meal is allowed. On days of fast two other meat-less meals may be taken according to one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. 2. The other Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat. 3. The obligation to abstain from meat begins at fourteen (14) years of age. 4. The obligation to fast begins at eighteen (18) years of age and ends at fifty-nine (59) years of age. 5. Although the faithful may excuse themselves for a just cause from these laws of fast and abstinence, there is an obligation to substitute another penance and no Catholic should lightly excuse himself/herself from this obligation in the Lenten season. And now I would like to appeal to everyone, believers and non-believers alike. Jesus taught us that the diabolical senselessness of violence is answered with God's weapons, with prayer and fasting. I invite everyone to make next 2 March, Ash Wednesday, a Day of Fasting for Peace. I encourage believers in a special way to dedicate themselves intensely to prayer and fasting on that day. May the Queen of Peace preserve the world from the madness of war.
Fromthe Diary of St. Faustina 9 At the beginning of Lent, I also asked to have the subject of my particular examen changed, and I was told to do everything with the pure intention of reparation for poor sinners. This keeps me in continual union with God, and this intention perfects my actions, because everything I do is done for immortal souls. All hardships and fatigue are as nothing when I think that they reconcile sinful souls with God. 20 Mary is my Instructress, who is ever teaching me how to live for God. My spirit brightens up in Your gentleness and Your humility, O Mary. 74 In the evening, when I was in my cell, I saw an Angel, the executor of divine wrath. He was clothed in a dazzling robe, his face gloriously bright, a cloud beneath his feet. From the cloud, bolts of thunder and flashes of lightning were springing into his hands; and from his hand they were going forth, and only then were they striking the earth. When I saw this sign of divine wrath which was about to strike the earth, and in particular a certain place, which for good reasons I cannot name, I began to implore the Angel to hold off for a few moments, and the world would do penance. But my plea was a mere nothing in the face of the divine anger. Just then I saw the Most Holy Trinity. The greatness of Its majesty pierced me deeply, and I did not dare to repeat my entreaties. At that very moment I felt in my soul the power of Jesus, grace, which dwells in my soul. When I became conscious of this grace, I was instantly snatched up before the Throne of God. Oh, how great is our Lord and God and how incomprehensible His holiness! I will make no attempt to describe this greatness, because before long we shall all see Him as He is. I found myself pleading with God for the world with words heard interiorly. As I was praying in this manner, I saw the Angel’s helplessness: he could not carry out the just punishment which was rightly due for sins. Never before had I prayed with such inner power as I did then. The 75 St. Padre Pio Quote from: www.Goodreads.com opens the Heart of God. Pray for PEACE in Ukraine! is the best weapon we possess. It is the key that words with which I entreated God are these: Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ for our sins and those of the whole world; for the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us. Diary 619, 620, 474, 475 Prayer
He walked up and down the length and breadth of Ireland, converting kings, confronting druids, and founding monasteries. His legacy resonates down through the ages - if the Irish saved Western civilization, they did it because St. Patrick had first come to save their souls. Because of one man's conversion and fidelity to Jesus, the seeds of Christianity were sown and cultivated in a pagan land. Because of one man's love for Christ and willingness to share him with the very people who had once enslaved him, the whole world has reaped the tremendous legacy of Irish missionaries, scattering across the world for the proclamation of the Gospel. Because of Patrick, many nations have been blessed. Let us ask St. Patrick's intercession for the new evangelization, that the faith may be restored in the West and shine ever more brightly in our hearts and lives. Let us ask for his prayers, that the new paganism may be turned back and the Holy Spirit may come to transform all our lives and hearts. 5 The Marian Fathers invite the faithful to unite in prayer and continue to pray the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet for peace and end to war in Ukraine. May the Queen of Peace preserve the world from the madness of war. Yes, I want To Help! Born into a Catholic home in Scotland, he nevertheless had not lived the faith, according to his own account in his Confessions. Patrick was kidnapped as a youth and taken to Ireland where he was enslaved by a druid. He converted to Christ in captivity and spent most of his time in prayer. Following God's prompting, Patrick made his escape after six years. After gaining his freedom, he studied under St. Germain, was ordained a priest and eventually a bishop, and served as a missionary for some time before returning to Ireland because of a dream. Formorepro-liferesourcespleasevisit: www.respectlife.org How to Be Pro-Life "Human life is sacred because from its beginning it involves the creative action of God and it remains for ever in a special relationship with the Creator, who is its sole end. God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning until its end: no one can under any circumstance claim for himself the right directly to destroy an innocent human being."56 “...since 1973, more than 60 million unborn children have been aborted. Each year in this country, about 900,000 more are added to that list. Yet even if it [Roe v. Wade] were overturned, even if every state in the union ended up outlawing abortion for any reason at any time (which is doubtful), we know that abortion, somehow or another, would continue to exist in this fallen world. Though we can and should hope, pray, vote, and advocate for an end to legalized abortion, we must focus on what we can do here and now in our own communities. We need to double up our efforts on changing hearts and minds, one at a time, to understand the inherent dignity of unborn life.” excerpt from How to Be Pro-Life by Marc Massery. www.thedivinemercy.org/articles/how-be-pro-life How to be Pro-Life For more pro-life resources go to: www.respectlife.org Novena to St. Joseph For those on the Path of Adoption March 10-18, 2022 Invoking the intercession of St. Joseph, foster father of Jesus for all whose life stories include adoption.
