DIVINE MERCY WEEKEND – April 15 & 16, 2023 Presented by the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception. For more information about our celebration visit TheDivineMercy.org National Shrine of The Divine Mercy 413-298-3931 ShrineofDivineMercy.org
Dear Pilgrims, On behalf of the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception, welcome to the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy. We are honored to have the Most Reverend Bernard E. Shlesinger III, Auxiliary Bishop of Atlanta, as our Main Celebrant on Sunday. After a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic, we are excited to be back to our full public celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday this year! The suffering and tribulations experienced in these past three years have stirred up much restlessness and even caused some to wonder where God is present in the midst of it all. Yet God has been present and continues to be with us, even if veiled in His mysterious ways. His Presence is especially real and most substantial in the Eucharist, where Jesus, although veiled under the appearance of bread and wine, is truly present in His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. “In his Eucharistic presence he remains mysteriously in our midst as the one who loved us and gave himself up for us (CCC, 1380).” This year marks the closing of the Year of the Eucharist in our Diocese of Springfield, MA which has focused on renewing devotion to Christ truly present in the Eucharist; hence why our theme for this weekend is “Eucharistic Miracles.” Every Mass we witness the miracle of bread and wine becoming the Body and Blood of Christ, the same sacred Body from which gushed forth Blood and Water as a fount of mercy upon us and the whole world. As you gaze upon the Lord’s Eucharistic Face in adoration, remember His sacrifice of love for us, “while we were yet sinners.” As you feast upon this Most Sacred Banquet — food for our pilgrimage to Heaven — know that your Divine Host wishes to grant you all that you ask with trust, so ask for much! We hope that you will have a special encounter with Jesus in the most Blessed Sacrament this weekend as you seek to receive the Extraordinary Graces that are available only on Divine Mercy Sunday by receiving Holy Communion worthily. With our merciful God coming to rest in your heart in Holy Communion, may you find rest and peace in Him today. Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Matthew Tomeny, MIC Rector, National Shrine of The Divine Mercy We especially wish to thank the hundreds of dedicated volunteers who return year after year, and without whose support we would be lost, as well as those who annually donate the use of their parking facilities during Mercy Weekend: Berkshire Hills Regional School District | Lee Premium Outlets And those businesses who donate goods and services: Comalli Electric | Ward’s Nurseries Special Thanks to: Chief Darrell Fennelly and the Stockbridge Police Department Stockbridge Emergency Management Department | Stockbridge Fire Department | Lee PD Great Barrington PD | BMC Medical Center | Fairview Hospital | Berkshire County Sheriff’s Dept. 7 LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST OFFERTORY HYMN Alleluia, Give Thanks Refrain: Alleluia, alleluia! Give thanks to the risen Lord. Alleluia, alleluia! Give praise to His Name. Jesus is Lord of all the earth. He is the King of creation. Spread the good news o’er all the earth: Jesus has died and has risen. We have been crucified with Christ. Now we shall live forever. Guidelines for the Reception of Communion As Catholics, we fully participate in the celebration of the Eucharist when we receive Holy Communion. We are encouraged to receive Communion devoutly and frequently. In order to be properly disposed, we should not be conscious of grave sin and should have fasted for one hour before receiving Holy Communion. A person who is conscious of grave sin must not receive the Eucharist without prior sacramental Confession. For those of you who are not Catholic, we cannot admit you to Holy Communion, however, we encourage you to express in your hearts a prayer of desire for unity with the Lord Jesus and with one another. COMMUNION HYMN Jesus, My Lord, My God, My All Refrain: Sweet Sacrament, we Thee adore! Oh, Make us love Thee more and more. Oh, Make us love Thee more and more.
8 HOUR OF GREAT MERCY EXPOSITION OF THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT WERNER O Salutaris Hostia, Quae caeli pandis ostium; Bella premunt hostilia, Da robur, fer auxilium. Uni trinoque Domino, Sit sempiterna gloria, Qui vitam sine termino, Nobis donet in patria. Amen. SATURDAY, APRIL 15 (DAY 9) DIVINE MERCY NOVENA “Today bring to Me SOULS WHO HAVE BECOME LUKEWARM, and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. These souls wound My Heart most painfully. My soul suffered the most dreadful loathing in the Garden of Olives because of lukewarm souls. They were the reason I cried out: ‘Father, take this cup away from Me, if it be Your will.’ For them the last hope of salvation is to run to My mercy.” Most Compassionate Jesus, You are Compassion Itself. I bring lukewarm souls into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart. In this fire of Your pure love let these tepid souls, who, like corpses, filled You with such deep loathing, be once again set aflame. O Most Compassionate Jesus, exercise the omnipotence of Your mercy and draw them into the very ardor of Your love, and bestow upon them the gift of holy love, for nothing is beyond Your power. Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon lukewarm souls who are nonetheless enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Father of Mercy, I beg You by the bitter Passion of Your Son and by His three-hour agony on the Cross: let them, too, glorify the abyss of Your mercy. Amen. SUNDAY, APRIL 16 (DAY 1) DIVINE MERCY NOVENA “Today bring to Me ALL MANKIND, ESPECIALLY ALL SINNERS, and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. In this way you will console Me in the bitter grief into which the loss of souls plunges Me.” Most Merciful Jesus, whose very nature it is to have compassion on us and to forgive us, do not look upon our sins but upon our trust which we place in Your infinite goodness. Receive us all into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart, and never let us escape from It. We beg this of You by Your love which unites You to the Father and the Holy Spirit. Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon all mankind and especially upon poor sinners, all enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion show us Your mercy, that we may praise the omnipotence of Your mercy forever and ever. Amen.
9 PRAYER FOR THE HOUR OF GREAT MERCY You expired Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us (Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, 1319). O Blood and Water which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus, as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You (3 times) (Diary, 84). THE DIVINE MERCY CHAPLET The Our Father // The Hail Mary // The Apostles’ Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. On the Our Father beads: V. Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, R. in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. On the Hail Mary beads: V. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, R. Have mercy on us and on the whole world. IN CONCLUSION: Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world. (3 times) (Diary, 476) Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself. Amen (Diary, 950). BENEDICTION HYMN ST. THOMAS AQUINAS Tantum ergo Sacramentum, Veneremur cernui, Et antiquum documentum, Novo cedat ritui; Praestet fides supplementum, Sensuum defectui. Genitori genitoque, Laus et jubilatio, Salus, honor, virtus quoque, Sit et benedictio: Procedenti ab utroque, Compar sit laudatio. Amen. (continues on page 12)

13 The Congregation of Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception of the Most B.V.M. is a community of about 500 priests and brothers who are serving Christ and the Church in 18 countries on six continents. Founded in Poland in 1670 by St. Stanislaus Papczyƒski, the Marians were the first Catholic men’s order to give witness to Mary’s Immaculate Conception by bearing this title. The Marians’ Founder was canonized on June 5, 2016. The Marian charism is three-fold: to spread devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Immaculate Conception that others may come to know her as the powerful intercessor she is; to pray for the souls in Purgatory, especially those who have no one else to pray for them; and to assist parish priests where the need is greatest. For six decades, the Marians have established apostolates that continue to strengthen and build up the Church.
