Marian Helper Summer 2013

Re c e i v ed Graces T o inspire you to seek the intercession of Blessed George Matulaitis-Matulewicz, we include this account of the miracle for his beatification. One interesting point is that Blessed George suffered great pain and had difficulty walk- ing because of tuberculosis of the bone. The beatification miracle involved a woman who had difficulty walking. Some brief facts: Adelaide Tamosiunaite was born in 1889 and lived inPanevezys, Lithuania. She was a teacher who rode a bicycle to school each day, but she had to stop after the pain of varicose veins in her left leg became unbearable. Soon, her condi- tion, which had affected her for 30 years, made it too painful for her to walk. In 1974, at the age of 85, she became bed-ridden due to thrombophlebitis. Her condition was considered hopeless. She faithfully turned to the Servant of God George Matulaitis in a novena. One morning during the novena, she woke and realized that the varicose manifestations of the thrombophlebitis had disappeared. She immediately ran to tell her family without feeling any discomfort. Until her death in 1979, Adelaide had no other ailment of her left leg and foot. On June 28, 1987, Archbishop George Matulaitis was beatified. A request from Fr. Joseph, MIC In this anniversary issue, we’ve been highlighting a key part of the legacy of Blessed George: his vision of having the Marians team up with laypeople in their service of Christ and the Church. One of the key members of our team here on Eden Hill is the executive editor of this magazine, David Came. Like Blessed George, David is known for his extraordinary kindness, gentleness, and zeal for the kingdom of God. He is greatly loved here at the Marian Helpers Center, and he has been an indis- pensible part of so much of what we do. David is also very sick. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease a few years ago, and it is becom- ing more difficult for him to continue his writing, editing, and planning for this magazine and our other publications. Despite this, I still see him in his office late at night and into the weekends, making sure our Marian Helpers stay well fed with solid spiritual food. Such hard work, dedication, and loving concern for our Marian Helpers is what Dave has been about for many years. And few people even know about it, which is how Dave likes to keep it. Here, however, with Dave’s permission, I wanted to make known his need and ours. I’d like to ask all our Marian Helpers to join me in praying for Dave’s healing through the inter- cession of Blessed George. It is particularly appropriate to ask Blessed George for this grace, because it is his vision that inspires the Marians to include people like David on our team. To pray for Dave, request and use the free Blessed George prayercard mentioned below.
