Marian Helper Spring 2024

Ahalf-century before Pope St. John Paul II declared a universal feast of Divine Mercy on the Sunday after Easter, the Marian Fathers on Eden Hill celebrated “Low Sunday” in their new (but not yet fully decorated) chapel, and pilgrims were invited. Even then, Mother Nature did not always cooperate. On April 8, 1956, pilgrims (including a busload from Rahway, New Jersey [top]), braved a freak snow storm. The following year, on April 28, 1957, skies were clear, and, reported Marian Helpers Bulletin, an estimated 1,000 visitors arrived “to help us to celebrate privately the Feast of the Mercy of God. Mass, sermons, blessing of [a] new Mercy painting and solemn benediction constituted the program of the day.” The provincial superior, Fr. Joseph Sielski, MIC, celebrated the Mass. Divine Mercy Weekend celebrations on Eden Hill take place April 6-7 this year. All are invited! For details, visit 36 Marian Helper • Spring 2024 • From the VAULTS
