DURING WAR: Helpers were quick to respond when Fr. (Major) Donald Van Alstyne, MIC, an Army chaplain serving in Afghanistan in 2011, asked for help. Serving under combat conditions, his troops needed the most basic of personal items. “The soldiers are under pressure 24/7, so these items are going a long way. We are so grateful,” said Fr. Donald. DISASTER RELIEF: The Helpers responded generously to the Marians’ appeal after an earthquake on Jan. 12, 2010, devastated Haiti (shown), killing an estimated 200,000 people.
