FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How was the project to build the Marian Monastery and Community Chapel determined? e Marian Monastery and Community Chapel building project was determined by the Marian Fathers’ leadership based on their current and future needs. e project was then tested through personal interviews, focus groups, and an e-survey during the feasibility study conducted by Ruotolo Associates. Building cost estimates were provided by our architect. Why is the new National Shrine not included in this campaign? While the prospect of building a new National Shrine was well-received during the Pre-Campaign Study, we are focusing our e orts on the Monastery and Chapel. ere are two primary reasons for this. e rst is strictly budgetary. e overall combined cost of a new Shrine as well as the Monastery and Chapel would surpass our fundraising capacity. e second is that we must prioritize our Marian Priests and Brothers. ey currently reside in fragmented groups and in buildings that are in great need of repair. It is our intention to address the new National Shrine in a future project. When will construction begin? e duration of the capital campaign will be approximately eighteen months, which will provide su cient time for donors to prayerfully consider their pledge amount. A pledge redemption period of 60 months will follow the capital campaign. Construction will begin once 90% of the project goal has been funded. How much am I expected to give? Your pledge is a very personal decision. is campaign is a unique opportunity for the Marian Fathers to continue as a vibrant community. Ultimately, we ask that you consider your sacri cial gi in terms of your overall stewardship to our religious order, and what this project means to you, your family, and the future of the Marians. We have been blessed by the sacri ces of those who came before us. How long will I have to meet my pledge? Making a pledge as opposed to a one-time gi allows you to make a larger gi to this campaign over a designated period of time. We are asking donors to ful ll their pledges over a ve-year period. I already give to the Marians. Why should I support the campaign? e campaign supports the needed Marian Monastery and Community Chapel project and is separate from the regular donations. e Marians are grateful for all donations received throughout the year. Your generous on-going contributions are needed for regular operating expenses and are not designated for capital improvements or repairs. Ideally, our Orders’ ordinary income should be at least equal to its ordinary expenses (utilities, supplies, services, employee salary and bene ts, insurance, etc.). Capital projects are considered extraordinary expenses that need additional funding. Is my gi tax deductible? Yes. e amount contributed is deductible to the full extent provided by the law. How can I make my payments? We have developed a ve-year pledge chart to help you identify a pledge level that you can reach. You will see that you can choose to ful ll your pledge in a number of ways. e Marians’ Mission Advancement O ce will send out pledge reminders on a regular basis. What happens if I am unable to complete my pledge? A pledge to the campaign is a faith promise; it is not legally binding. e Marian Fathers are dependent on the generosity and ability of its benefactors and community friends to complete this project. While we pray that you will not experience any nancial challenges, should your situation change, we will work with you to accommodate any unforeseen personal situations. 10
