having suffered something from his neighbor, takes revenge or desires to do so ? 9. How can one be considered charitable or merciful who does not perform acts of mercy; who does not take pity on his neighbor or help him in his need, when the opportunity arises; who does not pray for his neighbors and who does not come to the rescue of the souls suffering in Purgatory by participating in Masses, by prayer and by giving alms ? 10. And, finally, how can one feel compassion for Christ Crucified and take pity on Him in His Passion who does not recall the tremendous grace of redemption and everything that Christ suffered for him and ponder it with sincere gratitude; who does not deplore the fact that so many souls redeemed by His Precious Blood perish; and who is not the least bit concerned that the number of the enemies of the of Christ’s Cross is growing, as if all of this did not cost Christ Our Lord anything and as if it did not hurt Him at all ? So how can they consider themselves venerators of the Virgin Mother of God who do not acquire the virtues with which Mary shines, but only talk about them ? These ardent recommendations flowed from the soul of a man who put into action what he proclaimed by his words.
