During his stay in Rome, Father Casimir obtained from the Holy See many privileges for the Order of Marians and for its friends. He also went about in search of a church attached to a monastery, so that the Marians could settle in the Eternal City. He took pains to recruit candi- dates of Italian descent. His “Personal Records of the Activities of the Servant of God, Casimir Wyszy<ski, in Rome and his Notes Concerning the Canonization of the Founder” as well as the fragments of his “Diary” that remain to this day, give one an idea of his undertakings at that time. Before he left for Rome, Father Wyszy<ski had obtained letters of recommendation from King Augustus III and Prince Czartoryski to Cardinal Colonna, the protec- tor of the Franciscans, with whom the Marians were affili- ated at the time, asking that he look into the possibility of obtaining a foundation for the Marians. Father Wyszy<ski’s initial attempts to meet Cardinal Colonna and Pope Benedict XIV in person brought no result. Hence, having obtained letters of recommendation from the Polish minister Lagnasco, Father Wyszy<ski set out for Naples accompanied by Father John Kanty Szkraffer to ask the Queen of Naples, the daughter of King Augustus III, to intercede for him with the Pope.
