Korabiew Forest. Seized by the mission of mending the wrongs done to the Order by his brother, he tried to follow the rule and the constitutions as strictly as possible. He was characterized by a spirit of mortification, he did not take meat with his meals, and water was his only beverage. He noted with sadness that not all the brethren were faithful to the religious life. He even admonished Father Joachim, who was Superior of the monastery at the Korabiew Forest at the time, urging him to be more zeal- ous in watching over the preservation of the statutes, for whose approval he himself had made efforts in Rome, and urged him to preserve himself what he taught to others. It seems that in this way the prophecy of the Founder of the Marians to Father Joachim came true, as he would some- times say upon observing manifestations of Father Joachim’s willfulness : When you are advanced in years, God will give you a little comb in the Order which will groom you. The zealous novice took the opportunity to restore reli- gious discipline and brought about a visitation by the Franciscans who exercised care over the Marians at that time. Michael Wyszy<ski notes in his biography of his brother that the Marian novices were often sent to perform various chores outside the monastery. This interfered with one’s good preparation to the religious life, especially in view of the fact that the priests who stayed in the parishes for a number of years did not always set a good example.
